Late Night Vibes
Wendy’s wanted to promote their late night menu options, and director Darren Weininger asked Lightpost Studios to create custom menu-theme neon sign elements for the virtual environment of the shoot.
We started by conceptualizing how each individual food icon would flicker and glow, along with designing how the elements would appear mounted on walls.
Once the signs were approved, we placed them in a 3D Unreal environment, that became the backdrop for the Baconator, a late night burger menu item.
We also tested out animations that could be composited into the shot (meaning the VFX were applied directly to the footage, instead of a virtual LED wall). This included a neon sign and stars that were inspired by the star elements on the late night to-go bags.
Dreamy Flavors
Wendy’s debuted a brand new Frosty flavor, Orange Dreamsicle! To play off this fun new flavor, Lightpost Studios was tasked with creating a kaleidoscopic backdrop for the virtual environment.
In order to create these moving patterns, we took footage captured of a dreamsicle rotating on a robotic rig, isolate the image (by rotoscoping), and place it into the desired scenes.
The end result was a blooming, kaleidoscopic animation that played as the backdrop behind the products shots of the new Orange Dreamsicle Frosty.
